of her bed again and carefully rolled the stockings down her
legs and threw them in the general direction of her suitcase.
Standing and turning around, she grabbed her bikini under-
wear and bent down to put them on, then pulled the t-shirt
over her head. After going to the bathroom and removing her
make-up, she returned quietly and climbed into her own bed.
Glancing at Jason, she saw he hadn t moved a muscle and let
herself relax, turning over to face away from him and close
her eyes. Very quietly, she whispered, Goodnight Jason.
Thanks for tonight.
There was no reply, and she allowed herself to drift off to
sleep.
Jason lay there frozen, feeling like a voyeur after having

watched her strip down in front of him. His head was spin-
ning, and he wasn t sure if it was the alcohol or the sight of
her, unguarded and beautiful in the soft glow of light, that was
making him feel that way. Turning over roughly, he took a
deep breath and made himself close his eyes. Sleep finally
claimed him, and he thought no more.

Chapter 20
Returning home from Niagara Falls, Christy and Jason
got back into their respective routines as quickly as possible.
Her training schedule was as grueling as ever, and Jason was
working with her to adjust the choreography of her long pro-
gram slightly based on her performance at Sectionals.
Christy made the decision to stop trying to tempt Jason
into sleeping with her. She felt she had been pushing things
too far in light of their last night together in Niagara Falls, and
so she vowed that any further moves would need to be made
by Jason himself.
The problem of her parents hadn t resolved itself, and she
received a letter from her mother in mid-December, scolding
her for being irresponsible and thoughtless. After their last
phone conversation, she wasn t surprised in the least when her
mother wrote that she knew Christy had dropped out of univer-
sity and was still skating. Her mother told her in no uncertain
terms that her behavior was an embarrassment to her father and
herself, and she should be ashamed of herself.
Now Christy knew for sure that someone close to her
was feeding information to her mother, and she couldn t for
the life of her figure out whom it could be! Not that it mat-

tered anyway, as her mother wrote she would be arriving in
Toronto on January 8th to straighten her out once and for all.
She had absolutely no idea how she was going to deal
with this new twist. Nationals took place at the Ricoh Coli-
seum in the west end of Toronto from January 22nd to the
28th. This meant that two weeks after her mother arrived in
Toronto, she would be skating at Nationals. As far as she
could tell, her mother still didn t know she had qualified to
compete at this event, and she certainly had no intention of
enlightening her!

Chapter 21
Jason had decided they would take three days off from
skating over Christmas. Although this was highly unusual for a
skater approaching a big competition, they had been training
so hard he felt it would do them good.
Both Jason and Christy would spend the holidays without
their immediate families. Jason s mom and dad had decided to
go on a cruise this year. This was a big deal for his parents.
For so long, they had dedicated all of their savings to Jason s
skating, and this was the first real vacation they had been on in
many, many years. He was thrilled for them. Christy s family
was still in Russia and remained angry with her. She was ob-
viously upset by her parent s lack of support, but was trying
very hard not to show it over the holidays.
Around six pm on Christmas Eve, Christy was busy
wrapping the presents she had bought for her friends Jessie
and Rayne when the phone rang. It was Jason on the other end
of the line.
Christy, I m so sorry, but I need you to meet me at the
rink at seven. I know I said we would take time off, but
there s this one move I want to add to the long program, and
there s no way you ll have time to learn it and train it if we

don t start this week, he said apologetically.
Groaning audibly into the phone, she said, You mean to-
